Nobody here at B&BGTC will deny smoking marijuana for recreational reasons, but that's not the main reason we support NORML. I don't usually explain myself like this, but here are a few of the reasons I feel that marijuana should be legalized.
Medical Use: My mother has Multiple Sclerosis. The effects of THC would help with several of her M.S. symptoms. If marijuana was legal, scientists would be free to experiment with ways to use THC's medicinal properties. The way things stand now, we may never know how many medical applications THC may have. The prohibition of marijuana use is doing a great disservice to many seriously ill people. Don't victims of M.S., AIDS, Glaucoma, Endometriosis and other diseases deserve all the help they can get?
Alternative resources: Hemp is a very useful raw material. It can be used as fabric, fuel, paper, and building material, as well as in other applications where more costly materials are currently in use. While global deforestation and petro-chemical pollution continue to destroy our planet, policy makers, backed by lobbyists from the industries causing most of the environmental damage, block all attempts at reforming marijuana laws.
Allocation of public funds: The "war on drugs" is nothing more than a misappropriation of your tax money to enforce the morals of the minority on the majority. I'd prefer my taxes went to fighting battles on the lesser publicized fronts. What about the wars we should be waging on hunger, disease, educational mediocrity, homelessness???? The list goes on and on. These problems will surely rot our world, from the inside out, faster than a million pot heads ever could.
Think about it.
Do these laws help as many people as they hurt?
